Bishop Luke-Mark Bell Auxiliary Bishop - Archdiocese of the Southern Cross Bishop Luke‑Mark Bell is our Auxiliary Bishop with particular responsibility for the growth of the church in Western Australia.
Bishop Luke-Mark Bell brings together theological scholarship, clinical experience, and compassionate pastoral leadership. He holds a Bachelor of Theology, a Master of Divinity, and a Master of Arts (Theology), reflecting a lifelong commitment to thoughtful, grounded, and inclusive Christian ministry. Alongside his theological training, Bishop Luke-Mark is an Enrolled Nurse with advanced clinical skills. This combination of pastoral and clinical formation enables him to offer holistic care that honours the physical, emotional, and spiritual dimensions of human wellbeing. He serves as a Hospital Pastoral Care Chaplain across two Western Australian hospitals, supporting patients, families, and staff through crisis, illness, grief, and the ordinary challenges of daily care. He also serves as an Honorary Chaplain to Returned and Services League (RSL) Western Australia, where he offers pastoral support to veterans and their families with dignity, respect, and deep appreciation for their service. With the support of the Ecumenical Catholic Church of Australia, Bishop Luke-Mark is establishing a new pastoral presence in Mandurah through St Nicholas of Myra Ecumenical Catholic Church. This emerging community is grounded in the Catholic-Apostolic and sacramental tradition, committed to full inclusion, and dedicated to providing a safe spiritual home for all people. A central part of this ministry is Bishop Luke-Mark’s work with local LGBTQIA+SB groups and organisations. He offers pastoral support to people living with HIV and to survivors of conversion therapy, many of whom carry deep wounds caused by exclusion, stigma, and spiritual harm. His approach is shaped by compassion, justice, and the conviction that every person deserves dignity and belonging. His work in Mandurah has also received strong encouragement from local government representatives and state and federal Members of Parliament, reflecting recognition of the need for inclusive, community-centred spiritual care in the region. Across all his roles, Bishop Luke-Mark’s ministry is marked by integrity, presence, and a commitment to healing. His combined background in theology, nursing, and pastoral care continues to shape a vocation dedicated to compassion, inclusion, and genuine human connection. |
